What are licenses? Do I need them?

LicensingUpdated September 2, 2026

Yes, every product on Studio 2am is sold with a license that defines how you can use it.

A license isn't extra paperwork. It's what gives you the legal right to use the asset in your work. Without one, you don't have permission to use it commercially, or at all.

What does a license cover?

When you buy a product on Studio 2am, you choose a license at checkout. That license sets out:

  • What you can use the asset for (print, web, apps, products for sale, etc.)
  • Who it's licensed to: Just me, a Small team (2-5 people), or a Company or agency (6+ people, priced on headcount)
  • The quantity limits on end products

Do I need a license for personal projects?

Yes. Even for personal, non-commercial use, a license is required, it's included with every purchase. The license type you need depends on what you plan to do with the asset.

What license types are available?

For graphics, effects, mockups, textures, and templates:

  • Standard and Extended are two tiers of the same Commercial License Agreement. Standard covers personal and commercial use including client work, social media, logos, print, and products for sale (up to 10,000 units). Extended covers everything in Standard, plus app and digital development, broadcast and streaming, and a higher end product limit (up to 250,000 units).

Both tiers are licensed to Just me, a Small team (2-5 people), or a Company or agency (6+ people, priced on headcount). Declare who it's for at checkout.

For fonts:

  • Desktop, for print, branding, logos, and static design work. Licensed to Just me, a Small team (2-5 people), or a Company or agency (6+ people, priced on headcount).
  • Webfont, for live text on websites, tiered by monthly pageviews
  • App, for embedding in mobile apps or software, tiered by monthly active users
  • ePub, for embedding in digital publications

For free downloads, their own Free License Terms apply: personal and commercial use at any company size, but no redistribution, no reselling the files, and no print-on-demand or template use.

For the full breakdown of what each license permits and prohibits, see Licenses.
