Texture Help: How to change colour and blend mode of a texture in Photoshop/ standard Adobe software

Product categoriesUpdated November 4, 2026

To change the colour and blend mode of a Studio 2am texture in Adobe Photoshop (or most standard Adobe software suite), follow these steps:

1. Import the Texture:

  • Open your texture file (usually in PNG or JPG) by going to File > Open and selecting the texture file from your computer.

2. Add the Texture to Your Design:

  • If your texture isn’t already part of your design, you can drag and drop it into your current project or use File > Place Embedded to insert it into your canvas.

3. Change the Color of the Texture:

  • Option 1: Hue/Saturation:

    • Select the texture layer.

    • Go to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation (or press Ctrl+U).

    • Adjust the Hue slider to shift the color or change the Saturation and Lightness to fine-tune the appearance.

  • Option 2: Color Balance:

    • Go to Image > Adjustments > Color Balance for more control over shadows, midtones, and highlights.

    • You can adjust the Cyan/Red, Magenta/Green, and Yellow/Blue balance to modify the overall color tone.

  • Option 3: Tint:

    • Add a Solid Color Adjustment Layer on top of the texture layer.

    • Set the blending mode of the adjustment layer to Colour and select the colour you want to apply to the texture.

4. Change the Blend Mode:

  • Select the texture layer in the Layers panel.

  • At the top of the Layers panel, find the Blend Mode dropdown (usually set to Normal by default).

  • Click on the dropdown and experiment with different blend modes. Some commonly used ones are:

    • Overlay – Adds contrast and rich colour.

    • Multiply – Darkens the underlying layers.

    • Screen – Lightens the underlying layers.

    • Soft Light – Creates a soft, gentle effect.

5. Adjust Opacity (Optional):

  • If the texture effect is too strong, adjust the Opacity slider in the Layers panel to make it more subtle.

6. Fine-tuning:

  • You can also resize, rotate, or move the texture layer as needed by selecting the texture and pressing Ctrl+T (or Cmd+T on Mac) for Free Transform.

Hope this helps, enjoy playing around with your new textures! 🌟🔥
