Font Help: Accessing Alternative Glyphs in Fonts

Updated March 16, 202611 views

If you purchased a font with alternate characters, the alternatives are included in the one font file. You can access the alternates through the Glyphs panel in Adobe programs:

Photoshop:

Select a glyph in a Type layer to view alternatives in the Glyphs panel. You can turn off this feature by deselecting Preferences > Type > Enable Type Layer Glyph Alternates.

Adobe InDesign or Illustrator:

Use the Type tool to place the cursor, then select Type > Glyphs to open the Glyphs panel. You can choose a different font or type style, or select a custom glyph set from the Show menu. To see alternate glyphs for an OpenType font, click and hold the glyph box.

If you're using another program the process can be different so I'd suggest searching "{program name} alternative glyphs" and you should be able to find some more info on how to access them.
