How Do I Import Files Into Procreate on iPad?

Technical helpUpdated November 4, 2026

If you've already downloaded your files and aren't sure how to bring them into Procreate, here's a step-by-step guide to help you get started.

1\. Locate Your Files

After downloading, your files will usually be in the Files app on your iPad — often in the Downloads folder, iCloud Drive, or wherever you saved them.

If the files came as a .zip, you'll need to tap it to extract its contents. iPadOS can unzip files natively — just tap once.

2\. Importing into Procreate

To import brushes (.brushset)

  1. Open the Files app.

  2. Locate the .brushset file.

  3. Tap it, or tap and hold and select Share > Open in Procreate.

  4. Procreate will open and automatically install the brushes into your brush library.

To import color palettes (.swatches):

  1. Locate the .swatches file in the Files app.

  2. Tap it to open in Procreate — the palette will be added automatically.

To import textures, stamps, or images (.PNG, .JPG, etc.):

  1. Open your canvas in Procreate.

  2. Tap the Actions menu (wrench icon) > Insert a file.

  3. Browse to the image you want to import.

Tips

  • Make sure you're running the latest version of Procreate and iPadOS for the smoothest experience.

  • If Procreate doesn't appear as an option, try restarting your iPad and trying again.
